The Allscripts suffered a ransomware attack on January 18, 2018, which prevented Allscripts’ clients from conducting their daily business. Clients could not access patients’ records or electronically prescribe medications, causing business disruption. If you have been affected by downtime following the ransomware attack, call our class action attorneys for a free consultation.
Surfside Non-Surgical Orthopedics, P.A. in Boynton Beach, FL, filed a class action complaint against the Chicago-based electronic health record company Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc., claiming that Allscripts failed to secure its systems and data from cyber attacks.
The ransomware has been identified as a strain of the SamSam malware.
The Allscripts media contact provided a statement on this attack: “We are investigating a ransomware incident that has impacted a limited number of our applications. We are working diligently to restore these systems, and most importantly, to ensure our clients’ data is protected. Although our investigation is ongoing, there is currently no evidence that any data has been removed from our systems. We regret any inconvenience caused by this temporary outage”.
Updated statement on January 22:
“On early Thursday morning, January 18, we discovered a ransomware attack had affected two of our data centers, which house a small subset of our products. The ransomware has since been identified as a new variant of the SamSam malware. Of the roughly 1,500 clients impacted, none were hospitals or large independent physician practices, and services to many already have been restored. In addition, we immediately notified the FBI and have been providing information to assist with their investigation. Importantly, there is no evidence that any data was removed from our systems. We continue to work unceasingly to restore all services to our clients who are still experiencing outages.”
#ransomware attack on Allscripts has taken down our e-prescribing, EPCS and some other services! Yikes!! At least we don’t use their hosted application I hear many hosted practices couldn’t access their EMR yesterday. Talk about a shutdown!
